Turkish Delicacy

Traditional Turkish foods rely less on seasonings and more on tasty fresh ingredients rolled, kneaded, shaped and cooked to perfection with care, dedication and passion. This includes olive oil based dishes from the Mediterranean Coast, hearty pastries from central Anatolia, subtle spicy flavors from the east and southeast, and that’s just for starters.

Turkish Delicacy

We discovered this small yet with rich quality of food, restaurant of turkish food at Ganesh Chandra Avenue. The name is Kabir’s thanks to my sister for suggestion. We tried few of their dishes which I would review here respectively. Overall it was an extraordinary experience with lovely ambiance.

Tovuk Adana kebab & Tovuk shish kebab

Tovuk shish kebab

Kebab originated in Turkey, so you can’t get much more authentic than these Turkish chicken kebabs, or tavuk şiş (tah-VOOK’ SHEESH’). The method of cooking meats on a skewer over an open fire originated on the steppes of central Asia. In Turkey, it’s said the descendants of Genghis Khan himself skewered their daily catch on their swords and cooked it over an open flame. This concept was refined over time and was brought to the world with the westward migration of Turkic peoples.

Tovuk Chicken Adana kebab

Traditional marinated kebabs originated in in the Ottoman Empire but regional recipes are now popular throughout Azerbaijan, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Irq, Israel and Lebanon.BOur simple take on Tavuk Sis features flavourful and healthy ingredients like roasted red peppers, garlic, spicy peppers, olive oil, mint, paprika, cayenne pepper, honey, tomato paste, lemon juice and chicken thighs. Serve Turkish Chicken Kebabs with reserved spicy marinade, creamy yogurt, rice and fries. Or stuff in a pita and enjoy as a sandwich!

Who says you have to choose between sweet and spicy? By combining juicy pineapple and zesty jalapeno in the same glass, you can have the best of both worlds. Yes this is a must try item at Kabir’s and ofcourse was a surprise for me.

Tovuk kofte curry & zaatar bread

We tried tovuk kofte curry with zaatar bread as our main course. The Chicken Kofta Curry is a flavour packed chicken curry simmered in a tomato makhani gravy and simmer along with chicken kofta balls. This is the recipe that everyone would die to try out. There are many different versions to make the kofta curry but we have made it by using simple spice and fresh herbs in this one pot curry. The sautéing of the spice mixture along with onions and tomato is what makes this curry special and give in the extra taste to the curry.

Enjoy this traditional Middle Eastern flatbread, aka Zaatar bread/Manakish Za’atar, with just 7 ingredients from scratch and 20 minutes of hands-on prep! This zaatar flatbread can be served as a snack, appetizer, or alongside a breakfast spread!

Sheer khurma & turkish rice pudding

For dessert we tried both sheer kurma & Turkish Rice pudding. If you enjoyed custard and rice pudding as a child, you’ll love this recipe for baked rice pudding, known in Turkey as fırın sütlaç (fur-UHN’ soot-LAHCH’). Turkey is famous for its wide selection of milk-based desserts and puddings, and baked rice pudding is the cream of the crop. It holds a very special place in this country’s cuisine—you’ll find that it’s made in every home and served in every Turkish restaurant.

What it means to be a ‘vulnerable’, ‘endangered’ or ‘critically endangered’ species!!!

Species in India That Everyone Should Know About

Of close to 5,500 mammals assessed by the International Union for Nature Conservation (IUCN), 22.2% are extinct or globally threatened. 1,141 species of these are ‘threatened’. The Cheetah may owe its name to the Sanskrit word Citraka referring to ‘spots’, but it’s an irony that in India, it’s only the name that lives on. In 1947, when a Maharaja shot down the last three, the Asiatic Cheetah was officially declared as an extinct animal in India by 1952.

Have you ever been on a Tiger safari in Ranthambore? Or spotted a Rhino in Kaziranga? If you have, the wonders of the wild are sure to have touched you – and perhaps they even made you reflect on our lives in the city – away from the calming hues of the forest. What if you – or the children born in today’s day and age – never get to experience that?

While it was hunting and other human activities that mostly drove the Asiatic Cheetah in India to extinction, we might witness a repeat with some other animals that could soon become critically endangered species in India. The depleting numbers due to growing desertification and the crisis of habitat loss with land degradation and deforestation are alarming. Well, that is what the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species indicates. This Red List is known to be the world’s most comprehensive information source on the global conversation status of all species and is referred to by experts and conservationists around the globe. It identifies and classifies species according to their high risk of extinction and is becoming one of the endangered species of India.

Owl Species based on their Vulnerability Index

What’s more? More than half of these are either critically endangered or endangered. The rest (about 505 animals) are considered vulnerable, which is one level lower according to the classification.  Simply put, this means these animals are very close to extinction and their survival means the survival of our ecosystem and of generations of human beings to come.

There are 30 owl species to be found in India and most of them are in the Red List of threatened or endangered species International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act.

Now we wont discuss about the reasons of the vulnerabilities or the threats they faced that had lead these Owl species to get listed in the Red List. As we all are aware about the brutal things being a human we can exhibit. Hence we would focus on what we can do now to protect these species. This Blog will enlist the steps to follow if we found any animal that belongs to the Red List or to protect these species. It would be advisable to follow these steps to return something to our mother nature.

To Protect Endangered Species

  • Native plants provide food and shelter for native wildlife
  •  Slow down when driving.
  • Herbicides and pesticides may keep yards looking nice but they are in fact hazardous pollutants that affect wildlife at many levels.
  •  Recycle and buy sustainable products.
  • Harassing wildlife is cruel and illegal.
  • Protect wildlife habitat.

Steps to follow if you find an endangered species

  • Contact the local police station and in most of the cases they will be guiding you and ask for your contact number and address. They would reach you within half an hour or else will inform.
  • If not possible then check the Government website for wildlife prevention of your region. In our case we referred to the following site: http://westbengalforest.gov.in/
  • Get their contact number and inform about the endangered species you found. In our case we informed at – 033 23358580 (Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & HoFF, W.B)
  • Wait for them to reach you and hand over them the species.

For any reference you can refer to this site as well.

There are loads of hotels, lodges, holiday homes available in puri. Based on budget one needs to decide. However we explored Asian Inn Beach Resort this time.

Asian Inn Beach Resort

Though the property is located at quite a distance from স্বার্গদ্বার market place but it is quite good based on service and ambiance. However, they have restaurant services which has halted due to lockdown and renovation. So for now we had to take food from outside. They has lift facilities and rooms are quite spacious with balcony and sea view availability.

Staircases

It has a garden available and we can also enjoy sea view from both our bedroom and rooftop. AC and hot water in bathroom was available. The cost per room is 2200 per day which I consider worthy. However, due to lockdown we got that for 1200 per day.

Where to eat?

Now food as puri is the best place for having healthy food. I always enjoyed the sweets from street vendors. It was always delicious and mouthwatering. However, we explored hotels like বিদেশ ঘর, মাসির ঘর, বিধান. Veg thali was for 75, chicken thali for 150, and fish thali ranges from 110 to 250. Roti for 5 and tarka for 45. So prices are average with good quality. For breakfast we had puri-sabji at 20 per plate. Sudipa’s kitchen was also going to open in few days.

However, we need to visit that place within daylight as they don’t have electricity. So start at 3pm and try to reach there by 4pm. It is a great place for photography.
